Garmin Rolls Out Smartwatch Update to Squash Mapping Glitch

Garmin Fenix 9 Update 6.73 Fixes Map Crashes, Alarm Vibration Issues, and Spotify Bugs

Garmin has released a new stable software update for the Fenix 9 smartwatch, bringing several important fixes aimed at improving reliability and everyday usability. The latest system software version 6.73 focuses on resolving problems linked to maps, alarms, HIIT workouts, and Spotify playback.

The Garmin Fenix 9, which launched in August 2026, previously received software version 6.49 in September. That earlier update addressed an issue that could cause the smartwatch to shut down unexpectedly. Now, version 6.73 builds on that stability work with five additional bug fixes.

One of the key fixes targets the alarm vibration setting. Some users experienced a problem where vibration for alarms could be turned off without warning. With the latest update, Garmin has corrected this behavior, helping ensure alarms work as expected.

The update also addresses two separate shutdown-related bugs. One issue could cause the Fenix 9 to power off during a HIIT activity, which would be especially frustrating for users tracking intense workouts. Another bug could trigger a shutdown while viewing maps. Since mapping and activity tracking are major features of Garmin’s premium smartwatch lineup, this fix should be welcome news for outdoor enthusiasts, runners, hikers, and cyclists.

Spotify performance has also been improved in software version 6.73. Garmin has fixed a problem that could cause audio to stutter or drop out during playback. Another Spotify-related issue, where the smartwatch could shut down when switching between playlists, has also been resolved.

At this stage, Garmin Fenix 9 owners may need to check for the update manually. To do this, open the watch menu and go to Watch Settings, then System, Software Update, and Check For Updates.

Garmin says the broader rollout process for software version 6.73 will begin soon. For users who rely on the Fenix 9 for fitness tracking, navigation, music, and daily smartwatch features, this update should make the device more stable and dependable.
