Garmin Introduces Fresh Smartwatch Beta Update to Address Battery Glitch

Garmin has recently rolled out a much-anticipated beta update, version 13.60, for their popular Forerunner 245, Forerunner 745, and Forerunner 945 smartwatches. This update aims to rectify a puzzling battery level reporting issue that emerged in the prior beta version 13.40, which had left users scratching their heads.

When 13.40 was introduced in early October, it was intended to address problems with inReach Messenger and Strength Activity. However, it inadvertently led to a battery indicator bug. Many users experienced an inaccurate battery level reading; for example, some reported that their watch’s battery level plummeted by 90% within 12 hours, only for the charge to miraculously jump back to 80% shortly after being plugged in. This was particularly confusing given that the Forerunner 945, for instance, should last up to two weeks on a single charge in smartwatch mode.

The good news is that beta version 13.60 claims to fix this glitch, ensuring users can once again trust their devices for accurate battery life readings. Garmin has begun distributing this update, with at least 20% of Forerunner users having access to it at this stage. However, the full rollout schedule remains vague.

For those eager to get their hands on the latest software, you don’t need to wait for the automatic rollout. You can manually initiate the update by navigating through the Main menu to Settings, then System, followed by Software Update, and finally selecting Check For Updates.

This latest update is a testament to Garmin’s commitment to maintaining the reliability and performance their users rely on. So, if you own one of these Forerunner models, updating to version 13.60 might just save you from unnecessary battery anxiety and enhance your smartwatch experience.
