Game Developer Harassed Over Exclusion of LGBT+ Romance in Soulash 2

Soulash 2 has introduced a new feature through its Family Update, allowing players to establish families and create enduring legacies within the medieval fantasy roguelike RPG. This update brings added depth and immersion to the game by incorporating various nuanced systems.

Following the update’s release, a player inquired if same-sex romance would be included in the game. The game’s creator, Artur Smiarowski, responded that it was not currently a focus but did not rule out the possibility of its future addition.

Unfortunately, this response triggered an intense backlash, culminating in a prolonged harassment campaign against the game. Critics accused the creator of bigotry, leading to review bombing of Soulash 2, despite Smiarowski’s stance being a matter of practical game development rather than a reflection of personal beliefs. Some individuals even threatened to blacklist the game from coverage, aiming to damage the developer’s reputation and business.

Smiarowski addressed these extremist behaviors on social media, emphasizing his desire to foster a community oriented around a shared passion for gaming, free from harassment and intimidation.

Soulash 2 is currently available for Windows PC on platforms like Steam and Itch.
