Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event was a spectacle for tech enthusiasts, predominantly highlighting advancements in AI, a deepening partnership with Google, and enhancements to its foldable devices. However, a standout revelation was the introduction of the Galaxy Watch 8 series, which signifies a significant shift in design and not just an update in software.
The Galaxy Watch 8 series turns heads with its bold new design, moving away from the traditional circular appearance to embrace a unique ‘squircle’ shape—a blend of square and circle. This reimagining of design language has sparked mixed emotions among fans. While some appreciate the fresh look, others lament the departure from the classic design that has long been associated with Samsung’s smartwatches.
One of the most intriguing enhancements is the new component mounting process, which has enabled a slimmer profile for the base model by reconfiguring its internal layout. Enhancing the user experience is the Dynamic Lug system, initially introduced with the Watch Ultra, which offers a more comfortable and ergonomic fit.
Both the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic feature a stunning sapphire crystal display for enhanced visibility and durability. Powered by the Exynos W1000 processor and equipped with 2GB of RAM, they ensure a seamless user experience. While both models largely retain similar core features, the Classic version boasts 64GB of internal storage, allowing ample space for apps and media.
In terms of battery life, the Classic offers a 445mAh battery while the standard model comes with a 435mAh battery. These do not match the longevity of the Watch Ultra, making the Ultra a better choice for those prioritizing extensive battery life, particularly travelers and adventurers.
Samsung has significantly upgraded health and fitness features in the Galaxy Watch 8 series. Improved GPS sensors deliver precise route tracking, and new additions like Running Coach enhance your workout experience. Sleep tracking now includes stress level management and bedtime guidance, promoting a better night’s rest. Additionally, the new Antioxidant Index feature helps users comprehend their body’s response to stress.
The Galaxy Watch 8 series debuts as the first to integrate Gemini, launching with Wear OS 6 through the One UI Watch 8 update. The Galaxy Watch 8 is available in Silver and Graphite, with size options of 40mm and 44mm. The Classic version, however, comes in Black and White, available solely in a 46mm size. Pricing is set at $349 for the Watch 8, $499 for the Watch 8 Classic, and $649 for the Galaxy Watch Ultra in Titanium Blue. All models are now available for pre-order directly from Samsung.
