Galaxy S25 Ultra Faces Camera Ring Durability Challenges

Samsung’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, is creating a buzz as it undergoes the ultimate durability test, and the results have been enlightening. Unveiled alongside the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, the S25 Ultra brings a familiar design with a twist—a redesigned rear camera boasting distinctive metal rings.

In a recent test conducted by a well-known tech reviewer, it was revealed that the camera lenses on the S25 Ultra are surrounded by metal rings that are slightly raised from the glass. Interestingly, these rings appear to be more than just an aesthetic addition; with the simple use of a razor blade, they can be effortlessly popped off, suggesting that they’re secured with adhesive, reminiscent of how fake eyelashes are applied.

Although these metal rings are unlikely to detach on their own during regular use, a bit of extra care wouldn’t hurt to ensure they stay in place. Alongside this, the durability test highlighted another concern: the Samsung branding on the rear of the phone was found to be misaligned. This is not an optical illusion or a camera glitch, but possibly a small manufacturing oversight. It remains unclear if this misalignment is specific to the test unit or a widespread issue.

Additional insights from the durability test pinpointed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s display is not as resilient as its predecessor, the S24 Ultra. While the former generation showed first signs of surface damage at level 7 on the tester’s scale, the Glass Armor 2 on the S25 Ultra begins to scratch at level 6.

Furthermore, there have been revelations about the S25 Ultra’s S Pen. Unlike its predecessor, it lacks Bluetooth functionality, although a slot for a battery is present—sans an actual battery. It’s also disclosed that while titanium fortifies the frame, the side buttons are not made from the same material.

Despite these findings, the $1,300 Galaxy S25 Ultra did pass the bend test, proving robust in other aspects. As Samsung continues to refine its flagship models, consumers are encouraged to weigh these design and durability factors when considering their next big investment in tech.
