Galaxy S24 Teardown Reveals Impressive Repairability

As the smartphone industry continues to evolve, Samsung has been enhancing its devices across multiple fronts from advanced displays and camera systems to user experience and build quality. A noteworthy aspect in the latter has been the improvement in device repairability. Sampling the recently launched Galaxy S24 Ultra, which impressed with its repairability score, it seems the base model Galaxy S24 follows suit in terms of repair-friendliness.

An insightful teardown video by PBKReviews sheds light on the innards of the Galaxy S24 and demonstrates the steps needed for repairing the device. The process appears quite straightforward, which is good news for DIY enthusiasts.

Galaxy S24: Built with Repairability in Mind

The Galaxy S24 boasts repair-friendly features such as an easily removable 4,000mAh battery fitted with an adhesive pouch incorporating a pull tab. This design element is a hassle-free alternative to the use of heat guns previously needed to detach batteries from the phone’s body.

The disassembly video also provides a glimpse of the device’s vapor chamber, an integral part of its cooling system designed to handle the thermal output of either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 chipset, depending on the market. Notably, this vapor chamber is larger than that found in the Galaxy S23, indicating enhanced cooling capacity.

Adhesive usage is minimal in the Galaxy S24’s construction. The rear panel relies on glue for attachment, but most other components are secured with screws, which is beneficial for repair and disassembly procedures.

Based on the evaluation by PBKReviews, the Galaxy S24 receives an impressive repairability score of 9 out of 10. The phone excels with perfect scores for parts availability, battery replacement, and the replacement of miscellaneous parts. It achieves slightly lower scores in internal design and screen replacement categories but still maintains commendable marks.

While Samsung’s Self-Repair Program has yet to encompass the Galaxy S24 series, the initiative is expanding, now including more foldable phones, television sets, soundbars, and additional electronic products. It’s expected that the Galaxy S24 series will soon become part of this program, facilitating access to official replacement parts and repair tools.

The improvement in repairability is a significant step forward for Samsung and its users, repurposing smartphones to be more sustainable and owner-friendly in the long run.
