Galaxy S24 Series Accused of Downgrading Voice Recorder App UI in One UI 6.1

Galaxy S24 Voice Recorder UI in One UI 6.1

The latest update to Samsung’s One UI 6.1, rolled out to the Galaxy S24 series, has introduced several new features and enhancements. However, not all changes have been well-received, and the update has attracted criticism for certain UI choices that seem to undermine ease of use. A prime example of this is the alteration made to the Voice Recorder application, which has seen significant changes in usability.

Previous iterations of the Voice Recorder app, like those found in One UI 6.0 and earlier, showcased straightforward and user-friendly interfaces. Previously, users could quickly select between “Standard” and “Interview” recording modes directly from the home screen of the app, which was lauded for its convenience and intuitiveness.

However, with the introduction of One UI 6.1, these recording modes seem to have been buried within the app’s settings menu, now requiring additional taps to access what was once available at a glance. This design change has sparked annoyance among users, who now find themselves navigating a more complex process to carry out a basic task such as selecting a recording mode.

Samsung has equipped One UI 6.1’s Voice Recorder with new Galaxy AI features like the abilities to summarize, transcribe, and translate, particularly within the “Standard” recording mode, which demonstrates the company’s push towards harnessing artificial intelligence for enhanced user experience. Despite these advancements, the overshadowing sentiment is that of regression in the app’s overall user interface design.

Critics suggest that an alternate and more user-friendly approach would have been the inclusion of a “Recording Mode” shortcut button on the app’s main screen, rather than relegating such fundamental features to the depths of a settings submenu.

As it stands, users must now ensure they have pre-selected the appropriate recording mode through the less accessible menu, which adds unnecessary steps and complication to what should be a straightforward process.

The situation with the Voice Recorder app may not be an isolated incident, as this is just one among various UI design critiques aimed at the Galaxy S24’s One UI 6.1 update. Users and enthusiasts are hopeful that Samsung will take this feedback into consideration and introduce improvements in upcoming updates to create a more user-centric experience.
