Samsung has introduced the Galaxy A55 as an attractive mid-range option in Europe, priced at €479. An upgrade from its predecessor, the Galaxy A54, the new Galaxy A55 boasts significant enhancements, including 12 GB of RAM and the advanced Xclipse 530 GPU, which leverages AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture for superior graphics performance.
Despite its promising features and moderate price increase compared to last year’s model, Samsung has made the strategic decision not to release the Galaxy A55 in the United States. This choice to exclude the model from the US market is presumably aimed at safeguarding Samsung’s flagship sales within the country.
The Galaxy A54, the A55’s forerunner, was introduced in the US at a price point of $450. Hence, it was anticipated that the Galaxy A55 would occupy a similar price bracket in the US. Its absence leaves a significant void within the mid-range segment, with the next alternatives being the higher-priced $609.99 Galaxy S23 FE and the $799.99 Galaxy S24.
However, Samsung will be introducing the Galaxy A35 5G to the American market, signalling its continued commitment to providing a variety of smartphone options. Priced around €379 (~$415), the Galaxy A35 is expected to be the company’s offering to fill the entry-level to mid-tier segment.
This reshuffling of product availability might be a response to the tech giant’s recent market performance, where a change in strategy could be in order to strengthen its position in the smartphone industry. With the smartphone market ever-evolving, it’s crucial for companies to adapt their sales and product strategies to maintain relevance and competitiveness.
Customers in the US intrigued by Samsung’s A series will have to explore the alternative models available domestically and await forthcoming announcements regarding new additions to Samsung’s offerings in the region.
