Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Evo Cinema Brings Retro Charm and Video Capture to Instant Photography

Fujifilm is bringing a fresh twist to instant photography with the Instax Mini Evo Cinema, a retro-styled camera that goes beyond snapshots by recording video too. Designed to appeal to fans of classic aesthetics and creative effects, this model blends the charm of old-school cameras with modern features aimed at making every clip and print feel more personal.

One of the standout additions is Fujifilm’s “era” dial, labeled with years spanning 1930 all the way to 2020. Turn the dial to a specific year and the camera automatically applies a matching filter intended to recreate the mood and visual character of that decade. The idea is simple: if you want your video to look like it came from a different time period, you can set the era and let the camera handle the styling for you, without needing editing software.

Printing works in a satisfyingly hands-on way, too. To produce an instant photo print, you’ll need to fold out the second dial on the side of the camera and turn it, leaning into the physical, vintage-inspired experience that instant camera fans love.

The Instax Mini Evo Cinema also adds flexibility through its companion smartphone app. Beyond printing images captured with the camera itself, the app can be used to print photos taken on a different camera as well, making it easier to turn your favorite images into instant prints even if they didn’t start out on an Instax device.

Price and availability details are still limited. The Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo Cinema is set to launch in Japan on January 30, but Fujifilm hasn’t confirmed global pricing or a wider release timeline yet. In the box, buyers will find a viewfinder attachment and an additional hand grip included, while the matching carrying case will be sold separately.
