From LAN Rivalry to Lifetime Ruling: Counter-Strike 2 Pro Banned After Mid-Match Punch

A Counter-Strike 2 LAN final in Germany took a stunning turn when a post-match awards ceremony ended with a punch caught on camera and an unprecedented wave of penalties that quickly escalated from local punishment to a global lifetime ban.

The incident happened on April 19 at CAGGTUS Leipzig, a well-known LAN party event. During the awards ceremony for the Counter-Strike 2 tournament, Berlin-based streamer and semi-pro player Maurizio “MAUschine” Weber walked up to opponent Fabian “Spidergum” Salomon and struck him in the face. The hit was forceful enough to send Spidergum’s glasses flying off into the crowd, leaving players, staff, and the on-stage host visibly stunned.

What made the moment even more jarring was MAUschine’s demeanor immediately afterward. He continued moving down the line as if nothing had happened, appearing ready to shake hands with others until the presenter stepped in and called for him to be removed from the stage. The clip later spread widely on social media, fueling backlash across the Counter-Strike community.

Reports around the match suggest the altercation followed repeated taunting during the grand final, which MAUschine’s team had just lost. Spidergum was heard shouting “papichulo” after winning rounds—a phrase known as MAUschine’s own streaming catchphrase. The implication was clear: the phrase was being used to mock him and get a reaction, and the tension carried over into the ceremony despite the event not being associated with massive prize money or extreme competitive stakes.

Organizers responded swiftly. DACH CS Masters publicly condemned the assault and announced a long-term removal from competition, stating that physical violence has no place at LAN events and confirming the incident had been reported to the Esports Integrity Commission. The punishment didn’t stop there. Additional bans followed, including further 10-year suspensions linked to the broader German DACH scene and related organizations, and MAUschine’s Twitch account was also suspended.

Then came the most severe consequence. On April 21, the Esports Integrity Commission issued a lifetime ban for Maurizio “MAUschine” Weber, barring him from all ESIC-sanctioned events worldwide. The decision marked only the sixth lifetime ban in ESIC history, underlining how seriously regulators are treating physical confrontation at live esports events.

The situation has become a flashpoint discussion for Counter-Strike 2 and esports as a whole: trash talk and mental games are common in competition, but crossing the line into real-world violence can end a career overnight—especially when it happens in front of a live crowd and on video.
