Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Faces Another Indefinite Hiatus

After recently returning from a brief break, the beloved manga “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is taking another pause. Fans who excitedly anticipated the release of Chapter 140 were able to dive into it last week in Weekly Shonen Sunday, courtesy of Shogakukan. However, at the close of this latest volume, the announcement of another hiatus left readers in suspense once more.

This isn’t the first time the series has hit the pause button this year. It took a break in August after a stoppage in May and had only just resumed in November. The manga, crafted by writer Kanehito Yamada with captivating illustrations by Tsukasa Abe, first enchanted readers in April 2020. English-speaking fans have Viz Media to thank for the translated versions, while the anime adaptation can be enjoyed through streaming.

The storyline unfolds as, after vanquishing the Demon King, a group of heroes returns peace to the land only to part ways and lead solitary lives. The elven mage Frieren, who is immortal, finds herself confronted by the transient nature of human life. With a promise to fulfill her old companions’ dying wishes and a new apprentice by her side, Frieren sets off on a journey that wrestles with profound themes of life and death.

Although the manga is temporarily taking a backseat, there’s a silver lining for fans: a second season is in the works by MADHOUSE. Keep an eye out for more updates on what promises to be an exciting continuation of Frieren’s adventures.
