Foxconn and Mitsubishi Electric Mobility are preparing to deepen their partnership with a major investment aimed at accelerating the future of electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and software-defined mobility.
Foxconn plans to invest JPY115 billion, equal to about US$726.83 million, in Mitsubishi Electric Mobility as part of a new joint venture strategy. The move is designed to combine the strengths of both companies and support global expansion in the rapidly growing electric vehicle and self-driving car markets.
The partnership brings together Mitsubishi Electric’s long-standing experience in automotive technology with Foxconn’s flexible contract development and manufacturing model. Mitsubishi Electric has deep relationships across the automotive industry, while Foxconn is widely known for its ability to scale production efficiently and support complex technology manufacturing. Together, the companies aim to create a stronger platform for next-generation vehicle systems.
A key focus of the collaboration is expected to be electric vehicle components, autonomous-driving technologies, and software-defined vehicles. As cars become more connected, intelligent, and dependent on advanced electronics, automakers are looking for partners that can deliver both engineering expertise and manufacturing scale. This joint venture could help meet that demand.
The deal also highlights Foxconn’s growing ambition in the automotive sector. The company has been expanding beyond consumer electronics and positioning itself as a major manufacturing and development partner for electric vehicles. By investing in Mitsubishi Electric Mobility, Foxconn gains access to established automotive knowledge, existing customer networks, and technologies that could support future EV and autonomous-driving projects.
For Mitsubishi Electric, the partnership offers an opportunity to strengthen its mobility business and expand its reach in global markets. With the auto industry shifting toward electrification and higher levels of automation, collaboration with a large-scale manufacturing partner could help speed up development and improve competitiveness.
The shared ownership model will also serve as a test of whether deeper cooperation between the two companies can unlock faster growth. Instead of working only as separate partners, Foxconn and Mitsubishi Electric Mobility will have a stronger incentive to align their strategies, combine resources, and pursue new business opportunities together.
As demand rises for electric vehicles, Level 4 autonomous-driving capabilities, and advanced vehicle software platforms, this investment could become an important step for both companies. The joint venture may give Foxconn and Mitsubishi Electric Mobility a stronger position in the global race to supply the technologies that will power the next generation of cars.
