Football Manager fans will have to wait a bit longer than anticipated for the latest installment in the series. SEGA and Sports Interactive have announced that Football Manager 25, the much-anticipated sports simulation game, will now launch in March 2025 instead of its initial November release.
The game will be available on Windows PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, as well as on Mac, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass can expect the title on November 26, 2024, while Nintendo Switch users will get a “Touch” version later on.
Sports Interactive explained that the delay comes after extensive discussions with SEGA and their partners in order to ensure the game meets the highest possible standards. A previous development update in September had outlined the challenges the team faced in creating the first installment of this new era for Football Manager.
Despite pushing back the release date previously, the additional time still wasn’t enough to perfect the game’s quality and experience. The development cycle has been particularly challenging, with progress moving slower than anticipated. Tight timelines and rushed segments threatened to compromise the studio’s high standards, adding pressure on an already dedicated team.
Fans of the series should know that Football Manager 25 promises the most significant technical and visual updates in a generation. The decision to delay is aimed at ensuring these advancements are full-fledged, rather than rushed to meet an early deadline. Delivering a game that everyone can be proud of is the ultimate goal.
For those who have pre-ordered the game, Sports Interactive extends their gratitude and offers the option of a refund. Additionally, an Advanced Access period will be made available on PC/Mac before the new release date. More details will follow once the timeframe is confirmed, with a gameplay reveal now slated for the end of January 2025.
While the delay is undoubtedly disappointing, the commitment to creating a truly remarkable Football Manager experience remains firm. Fans are thanked for their understanding and patience as the team strives to usher in a new era for the beloved series.
