Final has introduced the DX4000 CL, a new pair of premium closed-back, over-ear headphones built for listeners who want the wide, airy presentation of open-back sound without the sound leakage. Aimed squarely at audiophiles and home listeners, the DX4000 CL focuses on recreating a spacious soundstage while keeping music contained—ideal for shared spaces or late-night sessions.
To pull off that “open-back-like” sense of space in a closed-back design, Final highlights a combination of physical comfort and acoustic engineering. The DX4000 CL uses extra-thick 30 mm memory-foam ear pads, designed to improve fit and help manage internal acoustics. Final also points to a low-distortion driver paired with a low-resonance structure, which is intended to keep the sound clean and controlled even as it aims for a more expansive presentation.
One of the headline features is the driver diaphragm material: Japanese washi paper infused with carbon. Final’s goal here is lightweight rigidity—an approach that can help a driver respond quickly while maintaining stability, which can contribute to detail, clarity, and better control across frequencies.
Final also addresses a common challenge of closed-back headphones: internal reflections that can color the sound. Behind the driver, the DX4000 CL incorporates a dedicated sound diffuser with fine ribs. According to the company, this structure helps cancel problematic reflections and reduces resonance, supporting a more open, less “boxed-in” sound.
Beyond sound, the DX4000 CL is designed with longevity in mind. Final says the headphones are field-serviced and can be taken apart so individual components can be replaced. That’s a notable value-add for buyers looking at high-end audio gear as a long-term investment rather than a disposable upgrade.
For connectivity, the DX4000 CL comes with a 2-meter detachable cable using a 3.5 mm connector, and Final includes a 4.4 mm adapter for users who want to pair the headphones with balanced-compatible portable players, DAC/amps, or desktop setups.
Pricing and availability: the Final DX4000 CL is listed at 128,000 yen (around $829), with deliveries scheduled to begin on February 6, 2026.
