Rumors are swirling about an exciting update for Bethesda’s classic RPG, Fallout 4. A decade after its release, the game might soon see a major overhaul, introducing mods through its Creations system, which has already been successful in other Bethesda titles.
This speculation comes from YouTuber JuiceHead, a well-known figure in the Fallout modding scene. Notably, he accurately predicted the Creations system’s debut in Skyrim before its official launch in December 2023.
The Creations system, currently featured in Starfield and Skyrim, offers players the ability to browse, purchase, and download a wide variety of mods, ranging from new quests and characters to items and more. JuiceHead found evidence of updates to Fallout 4’s SteamDB changelog, hinting at potential new features being tested in a closed Steam beta. This has led to speculation that the system could launch to coincide with the game’s 10th anniversary or the new season of the popular Amazon Prime TV series.
Bethesda’s revamped Creations system, which succeeded the 2017 Creation Club, initially received a mixed response. However, it has evolved into a robust platform for modders to share their creations with fewer restrictions from Bethesda. This revamp follows the controversial introduction of a paid mods system for Skyrim by Valve in 2015, which faced backlash due to the distribution of profits. Fortunately, the Creations system has found more favor within the Fallout community despite some concerns about AI-generated mods.
The release of the Fallout TV series has breathed new life into the franchise, drawing both new and returning players to Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas. The TV series premiere and a next-gen update pushed Fallout 4’s player count to an impressive 187,468 concurrent players on April 28, 2024, while Fallout: New Vegas reached 45,134 concurrent players on Steam.
Meanwhile, ambitious fan projects like Fallout: London have received acclaim despite some technical hurdles. Developed independently by Team FOLON since 2019, it launched on July 25, 2024, even though its release was delayed to avoid clashing with Fallout 4’s next-gen update. Impressively, Fallout: London also welcomed a VR update on May 28, 2025.
