Samsung is doubling down on its commitment to the Exynos chipset line with the mass production of the Exynos 2500 SoC, a move that signifies its relevance in Samsung’s future plans. However, the highly anticipated Galaxy S25 will not be the recipient of this latest chip; instead, the Exynos 2500 will be the powerhouse behind the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Rumors are abuzz that while a Galaxy S25 Plus variant exists with the Exynos 2500, the S25 series will predominantly feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Despite this focus on Snapdragon, Samsung’s endeavors with the Exynos line are far from over. Reports suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will welcome the Exynos 2500 next year, with potential plans for it to also feature in the Galaxy S25 Slim by mid-2025. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to continue with Snapdragon 8 Elite power.
Samsung has high hopes for the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s market performance, preparing an initial production batch of 3.9 million units. This number includes the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which will run on the Exynos 2400.
While a Samsung spokesperson has dismissed claims of ongoing mass production, this is typical for any product yet to be officially released. Performance-wise, the Exynos 2500 may not rival the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Dimensity 9400 concerning CPU capabilities. Its new Xclipse 950 could enhance GPU functions, although this won’t have a significant impact on a device like the Galaxy Z Flip 7, where gaming isn’t the main focus.
The Exynos 2500’s production is crucial for Samsung Foundry amidst its current challenges of low yields and minimal third-party orders. Achieving competitive parity with this chip will be vital, setting a stable groundwork for its follow-up, known by the codename Thetis.
