Just a day after its launch, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card is being sold for more than double its official MSRP set by NVIDIA. The pricing frenzy has reached an unexpected level, with these cards being listed at prices similar to the anticipated cost of the yet-to-be-released RTX 5090.
Initially, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti was marketed with a hefty $1,000 tag, which many considered steep. However, the surprise doesn’t end there—some cards are now being offered at prices typical for the RTX 5090. This astronomical pricing reflects how certain sellers, often referred to as ‘scalpers,’ are leveraging the launch to maximize profits.
Amazon has become a hotspot for these inflated prices, revealing astonishing listings for the RTX 5070 Ti. Custom AIB editions that were expected to hover around the $1,000 mark have skyrocketed to nearly $2,000. For instance, the Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti Eagle OC ICE SFF is priced at an eye-watering $2,199, while the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 5070 Ti OC Edition isn’t far behind, listed at $2,379.
Fortunately, a few sellers are offering a slight reprieve from these excessive costs. If your budget doesn’t stretch to over $2,000, you might find an RTX 5070 Ti for around £1,387.17 or $1,753.37, tax included. The cheapest option currently available is the Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti WindForce OC SFF edition at $1,699. This pricing pattern is consistent across various editions of the card.
Upon its release, the RTX 5070 Ti was snapped up almost instantly. Many retailers seemed to have a very limited supply, if any at all. This scarcity is attributed to NVIDIA’s failure to adequately supply its board partners with enough units, making the situation for the RTX 5070 Ti even more dire than it was for its predecessor, the RTX 5080. As a consequence, the card will likely remain elusive for several weeks, with some retailers already halting pre-orders.
In some regions, the shortage is so severe that the RTX 5070 Ti might not hit the shelves for another month, despite its launch earlier this year. As the year progresses towards its second half, the reality of the RTX 5070 Ti’s lackluster availability and sky-high market prices becomes more pronounced.
For those eagerly awaiting the release of the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5060/Ti GPUs, brace yourself for another potential repeat of scarcity. Reports indicate that these upcoming GPUs are experiencing technical issues, which could delay their launch by several weeks. This release saga for the RTX 50 series might go down as one of the most challenging in recent GPU history.
