Stupid Never Dies arrives October 21 on PS5 and PC with wild zombie action and roguelike chaos
Stupid Never Dies, the debut title from GPTRACK50, is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 21, 2026. The PlayStation Store currently lists the game’s unlock time as 10 PM UTC, while the Japanese release is scheduled for October 22. Sega is co-publishing the game, giving this unusual zombie adventure an even bigger push as it heads toward release.
The project is especially notable because GPTRACK50 was founded by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a veteran producer known for his long history at Capcom, where he worked on major franchises including Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis, and Dragon’s Dogma. With that background, Stupid Never Dies is already drawing attention from players who enjoy stylish combat, strange worlds, and character-driven action games.
At its core, Stupid Never Dies is a single-player 3D action RPG with roguelike elements. The game takes place in a ruined world where monsters now rule and humanity has been almost completely wiped out. Around 98% of humans are gone, leaving monsters to dominate what remains of civilization.
Players take control of Davy, a nervous and low-ranking zombie who sits near the bottom of monster society. His life changes when he discovers Julia, a human woman who froze to death inside a freezer. Davy immediately falls in love with her and sets out on a bizarre, dangerous mission to bring her back to life.
To revive Julia, Davy must venture deep into a deadly dungeon and consume KOM, the King of Monsters. By eating KOM, Davy hopes to recover the knowledge stolen from humanity and gain the power needed to change Julia’s fate.
The game describes its combat as Funky Zombie Action, and the name fits. Stupid Never Dies is built around fast battles, constant transformation, and unpredictable dungeon runs. One of the main gameplay systems is Style Eat, which allows Davy to bite into the cores of elite monsters and steal their powers.
These stolen powers let Davy transform into different combat styles. There are 11 styles in total, including his default Zombie Style. Other confirmed forms include Werewolf, Harpy, Golem, and Vampire. Each style changes how Davy fights, encouraging players to adapt their strategy depending on the enemies and dungeon layout.
A key twist is that styles do not last forever. Each transformation reportedly remains active for only three floors, meaning players cannot rely on a single favorite form for an entire run. Instead, Stupid Never Dies pushes players to keep experimenting, swapping powers, and reacting to whatever the dungeon throws at them next.
Another major system is Body Hack. This feature lets players replace Davy’s head, arms, and legs with Overtech equipment. These parts can improve Davy’s stats and unlock both active and passive skills, giving players another layer of customization as they build their ideal undead fighter.
Davy also has access to special abilities that can turn the tide of battle. Davy Burst temporarily boosts all of his abilities, making him more powerful for a limited time. Stupid Parry, meanwhile, allows players to counter incoming attacks if they time their defense correctly. Together, these mechanics add speed and skill to the game’s monster-filled combat.
Dungeon runs also come with pressure from a timer. When the countdown reaches zero, Davy suffers heavy stat penalties, making progress much harder. This gives every run a sense of urgency and forces players to balance exploration, combat, upgrades, and survival.
Davy will not face this strange journey alone. Supporting characters include Dr. Frank, who proudly considers himself a supreme intellect; Goyle, an immobile statue that helps analyze dungeon runs; and Acelino, a chihuahua man who manages the Body Hack system. These oddball allies add personality to the game’s darkly comic world.
The development team includes director Eiichiro Sasaki, and the game was built using Unreal Engine 5. On PlayStation 5, Stupid Never Dies will also be PS5 Pro Enhanced, suggesting improved performance or visuals for players using Sony’s upgraded console.
Music is also part of the game’s identity. Davy and Julia perform the opening theme, while Davy performs the ending theme, adding another eccentric touch to a game that already blends romance, horror, comedy, and stylish action.
With its unusual love story, monster transformations, roguelike dungeon structure, and fast-paced combat, Stupid Never Dies is shaping up to be one of the more distinctive action RPG releases of 2026. Players looking for a zombie game with personality, bizarre humor, and a creative combat system may want to keep this one on their radar when it launches on PS5 and PC on October 21.
