Escape the Backrooms

Escape the Backrooms Escapes Early Access, Console Ports Confirmed

Escape the Backrooms has officially left early access and launched in full on PC, delivering its most complete and terrifying take on the viral Backrooms mythos yet. Published by Secret Mode and developed by Fancy Games, the 1.0 release builds on the early access version that debuted in 2022 with more content, more polish, and more ways to escape—or disappear.

Version 1.0 features over 30 distinct levels inspired by the famous creepypasta, multiple endings, and updated visuals that sharpen the game’s already oppressive, liminal atmosphere. A new trailer showcases these upgrades and teases the horrors waiting in those eerily familiar yellow halls.

Console players won’t be left out: Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions are officially on the way in 2026. The console ports are being co-developed with Blackbird Interactive, which is also taking over active development of the game going forward.

What to expect in Escape the Backrooms:
– Immersive horror: Realistic graphics, a minimal interface, and a bleak soundscape combine for an atmospheric experience that has already scared millions on Steam.
– Co-op survival: Team up with up to four players. Stay together—teammates can no-clip into other areas without warning, and every member must reach the exit alive to complete a level.
– 30+ unique levels: Navigate a sprawling maze of liminal spaces rooted in Backrooms lore. It’s easy to get turned around, so communication and teamwork are critical.
– Hostile entities: Each entity behaves differently. Learn their mechanics, watch your corners, and adapt quickly if you want to make it out.
– Proximity voice chat: Coordinate with whispers when danger is near—enemies can hear you too.

Whether you’re chasing new endings or braving the Backrooms for the first time, the full release raises the stakes with more variety, higher fidelity, and tighter co-op systems. Escape the Backrooms is available now on PC, with console versions slated to follow on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in 2026.
