Escape the Backrooms Breaks Out Onto Consoles Today

Escape the Backrooms Arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S With Co-Op Horror and 30+ Eerie Levels

Escape the Backrooms is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing its unsettling liminal-space horror to console players. Published by Secret Mode and developed by Fancy Games and Blackbird Interactive, the popular survival horror experience expands beyond PC with a console release built around exploration, teamwork, and terrifying encounters.

Inspired by the well-known backrooms creepypasta, Escape the Backrooms drops players into a seemingly endless maze of familiar yet deeply uncomfortable environments. These spaces feel like places you may have seen before: empty offices, strange corridors, abandoned rooms, and other unnerving locations that appear ordinary at first glance but quickly become hostile and disorienting.

The goal is simple: find a way out. Surviving long enough to do that is the challenge.

Each level features its own escape route, hazards, and lurking threats. Players must search carefully, learn the rules of each area, and avoid the dangerous entities that roam the backrooms. Every creature behaves differently, forcing players to adapt quickly if they want to make it out alive.

One of the biggest draws of Escape the Backrooms is its cooperative multiplayer. Up to four players can explore together, but teamwork is essential. Teammates can become separated, no-clip into different parts of the map, or get lost in the maze-like layouts. To escape successfully, every member of the group must reach the exit alive.

The game also uses proximity voice chat, adding another layer of tension. Players can communicate with nearby teammates, but sound can be risky. Some entities may hear your voice, meaning a careless conversation could attract danger at the worst possible moment.

Escape the Backrooms includes more than 30 unique levels based on backrooms lore, each designed to create a different kind of fear. With realistic visuals, limited interface elements, and a bleak ambient atmosphere, the game focuses on immersion and dread rather than constant jump scares.

For console players looking for a tense co-op horror game, Escape the Backrooms offers a mix of exploration, survival, and psychological terror. Whether you enter alone or with friends, the backrooms are confusing, dangerous, and unforgiving.

Escape the Backrooms is available now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
