Epic Westeros Adventure: Kingsroad RPG Exclusively on Mobile

During The Game Awards 2024, viewers were treated to an exciting reveal from Chinese publisher Netmarble with their new trailer for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. Many fans of the iconic series were thrilled at the prospect of stepping into an action-adventure RPG set in George R.R. Martin’s captivating world. Imagine journeying alongside key characters from the beloved HBO series, with familiar likenesses and voices bringing the story to life.

However, there’s a catch. If you had the chance to view the trailer on a large 4K television, you might have noticed that the visual quality was not quite up to par with other unveilings at the show, like The Witcher IV by CD Projekt RED. While the game might deliver all the drama of Westeros, its graphics appeared more suitable for earlier generations of gaming technology, particularly in the details like hair and clothing.

The reason behind this is that Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is designed for Android and iOS devices, platforms that generally don’t yet match the prowess of PC and console gaming in the triple-A category. Though there may be the possibility of a future PC version, developing specifically for these powerful gaming machines from the start would have been preferable.

In this mobile adventure, players will assume the identity of a new character, who unexpectedly becomes the heir to House Tyre, a lesser-known noble family of the North. This customizable character can be tailored in appearance and chosen from three distinct classes: Sellsword, Knight, or Assassin.

Netmarble, which has a history of bringing the Game of Thrones universe to mobile with past MMORPG and turn-based RPG endeavors, is eager to launch this latest venture. CEO Young-sig Kwon expressed the company’s enthusiasm, stating, “We believe Game of Thrones is a world rich with untold stories and adventures, and we’re pleased to bring Westeros to life in an exciting new way for gamers.”

The release of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is set to roll out next year across Europe, America, the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania. As for Asia, the timeline remains undecided. In the meantime, those interested can sign up on the game’s official website to stay informed on updates.

Keep your eyes peeled and ready your swords as you prepare to embark on a new Westeros adventure!
