Engwe has introduced the Zip, a new compact foldable electric bike designed for city riders, commuters, and anyone who needs an easy-to-store e-bike with long-range assistance. Built with portability in mind, the Engwe Zip combines a space-saving folding design, a practical electric powertrain, and a useful charging feature that could make it especially appealing for daily urban travel.
The Engwe Zip stands out with its single-side front-fork folding system. This design is intended to make folding quicker and more convenient while also helping the bike remain stable and secure during use. Once folded, the e-bike measures 625 x 623 x 374 mm, making it compact enough for apartments, offices, car trunks, public transport, or tight storage spaces. With the battery included, the Zip weighs 19.4 kg, which is fairly reasonable for a folding electric bike with a steel frame.
Despite its compact size, the Engwe Zip is built to carry a maximum payload of up to 120 kg. Its steel frame gives it a sturdy feel, making it suitable for a wide range of riders and everyday commuting needs.
Power comes from a rear hub motor rated at 250 W, producing 40 Nm of torque. This setup is aimed at smooth urban riding rather than high-speed performance, making it well suited for city streets, bike lanes, and short-to-medium-distance commutes. The motor is paired with a 360 Wh removable battery, which Engwe says can deliver electric assistance for up to 120 km, or around 75 miles, depending on riding conditions, rider weight, terrain, and assist mode.
One of the most interesting features of the Engwe Zip is its 100 W USB-C PD charging capability. This allows the e-bike’s battery to function as a power source for compatible devices, adding extra convenience for riders who need to charge a phone, tablet, or other USB-C device while on the move. The battery also includes built-in BMS protection and carries EN50604 certification, which adds reassurance for safety and battery reliability.
For comfort, the foldable electric bike is equipped with seat tube suspension and 16 x 1.95-inch urban hybrid tires. This combination should help absorb some bumps and rough patches often found on city roads. Braking is handled by hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors, offering stronger stopping performance than many basic mechanical brake systems found on budget e-bikes.
The Engwe Zip also includes a 3.2-inch color LCD display that shows key ride information such as speed, battery level, riding mode, and other essential data. Bluetooth connectivity adds another layer of convenience, allowing riders to check ride details directly through a smartphone.
The new folding e-bike is available in two color options: olive green and space gray. Priced at €1,099, the Engwe Zip is positioned as a practical and affordable compact electric bike for riders who want portability, long-range assistance, and modern features in one package.
