Elon Musk’s Occasional Mix-Up: X vs. Twitter

Do you still catch yourself calling X by its former name, Twitter? You’re not alone. Even Elon Musk, the visionary behind the rebranding of Twitter to X, sometimes slips up and refers to the platform as Twitter.

Recently, Musk took to his platform, X, to discuss the achievements of the site. “Twitter added far more features with fewer people,” he remarked in a post, highlighting the efficiency his team has managed to maintain despite a leaner workforce.

Interestingly, Musk’s use of the old name shows that even the top executives sometimes fall into nostalgic habits when referring to the iconic social media platform.

The conversation arose in response to praise from another account for DOGE, a body focusing on government efficiency which Musk oversees. Over the weekend, Musk initiated a somewhat controversial move, urging federal employees to outline their weekly accomplishments or potentially face job termination. However, this ultimatum was softened when a government official stated that these performance reports were not mandatory.

In responding to the praise, Musk noted, “It worked for Twitter,” hinting at past success stories of improving efficiency within the company.

This is not Musk’s first nod to the platform’s original name, Twitter, and it might not be his last. Perhaps, in a fast-evolving digital landscape, some habits die hard, even for innovators like Musk. As the platform continues to grow under its new brand, its storied past as Twitter remains a significant part of its identity.
