Drake claims Apple and his music have conspired to make sure that Siri run Kendrick Lamar's music

Drake Suggests Siri Was Manipulated to Play Kendrick Lamar Tracks Instead of His Songs, Blames Record Label Payments to Apple

Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, has sometimes missed the mark when it comes to accuracy, which recently led Canadian rapper Drake into a whirlwind involving allegations and lawsuits. Drake, whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, believes that Siri was manipulated to mislead listeners intentionally, playing into a long-standing rap feud with fellow artist Kendrick Lamar.

Drake has accused Apple and Universal Music Group (UMG), his music label, of conspiring to redirect Siri to play Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us” instead of Drake’s own “Certified Lover Boy” album. This misdirection is particularly contentious due to some unsavory lyrics in Lamar’s song targeting Drake’s personal reputation.

The rapper has taken the matter to court, filing a lawsuit in Manhattan against UMG, Apple, and also including Spotify in the mix. According to a report from Billboard, Drake alleges UMG paid Apple to influence Siri’s performance, while also inflating the popularity of “Not Like Us” through online bots. These bots allegedly deceived consumers by making the track appear more celebrated than it truly was.

Drake’s legal team highlights the seriousness of these allegations, noting that Drake attempted to resolve them directly with UMG before resorting to legal action. The label, however, seemed disinterested in taking accountability, according to the lawsuit. Compounding this, UMG purportedly dismissed employees who sided with Drake, seeking to sweep any involvement under the rug.

While the lawsuit unfolds, there is speculation that the root of this issue might simply be a malfunction of Siri rather than a sinister plot. If nothing else, these events could spur Apple to enhance Siri’s capabilities, aiming for fewer errors. It’s said that forthcoming updates in iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4 will introduce features designed to improve Siri’s accuracy and contextual understanding.

As this legal drama progresses, the tech world watches with bated breath to see if Siri will indeed become smarter or if these alleged corporate conspiracies will unravel in court. Stay tuned for further developments in this high-profile case.
