Crimson Desert has taken gamers on quite the journey since its original 2019 announcement. An open-world action-adventure game, it initially captured attention with impressive gameplay videos, fueling anticipation for its release. However, the wait just got a little longer. The developers have postponed the release from late 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.
The creators behind both Crimson Desert and the popular Black Desert (released in 2014) shared this update during their Q2 2025 earnings call. The delay stems from the need for more time to coordinate schedules and collaborate with various partners, including offline distributors and voice actors. They acknowledged the disappointment this might cause, emphasizing that the decision aims to ensure a successful launch on a meaningful scale.
While an exact new release date is still under wraps, fans won’t be entirely in the dark; Crimson Desert will make appearances at Gamescom and PAX West in August, followed by a showcase at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
Initially slated for a November 2 release within its Q4 2025 schedule, rumors of an earlier launch were quashed by the developers, who clarified that an official date would be announced when set in stone. The change in plans means that if all goes well, the game will be available over six years after its first announcement.
Interestingly, the game underwent a significant transformation during development, shifting from its original MMORPG format to a more focused action-adventure style. The previewed boss fight clips promise intense combat and stunning graphics, powered by an upgraded BlackSpace Engine, the same technology behind Black Desert. According to its Steam page, the game will perform optimally with hardware like an RTX 2080 or an RX 6700 XT.
