Circleback Launches Free AI Meeting Note-Taker Plan as Competition Heats Up
The AI meeting assistant market is becoming increasingly competitive, and Circleback is making a major move to stand out. The Y Combinator-backed startup has introduced a new free subscription tier, giving users a no-cost way to try its AI-powered meeting transcription and note-taking tools.
The launch comes at a time when demand for AI meeting note-takers is growing quickly. More professionals, startups, sales teams, and remote workers are relying on automated tools to record meetings, generate summaries, search transcripts, and organize follow-ups. With several companies entering the space and established apps adding similar features, Circleback is aiming to attract more users by lowering the barrier to entry.
Circleback’s new free plan allows users to transcribe an unlimited number of meetings. However, free users can only access meeting history from the last 30 days. This gives individuals and teams enough time to test the product in real work scenarios without committing to a paid subscription.
The free tier also includes several useful features. Users can record meetings, access Circleback through mobile apps and Apple Watch support, ask AI-powered questions about transcripts, and connect the platform with tools such as Linear and Slack. These features make the free version practical for professionals who want a smarter way to manage meeting notes, decisions, and action items.
For users who need more advanced capabilities, Circleback’s paid plans now start at $14 per month when billed annually. Paid customers get access to all integrations, unlimited meeting history, full API access, and MCP access. Before the introduction of the free plan, Circleback’s subscriptions started at $20.83 per month, meaning the company has also made its paid entry point more affordable.
Founded in 2023 by Ali Haghani and Kevin Jacyna, Circleback has grown quickly in a crowded AI productivity market. The company raised $2.5 million in 2024 and says it has been profitable since then. With a team of eight people, Circleback reports a revenue run rate of more than $1 million per employee, which suggests an overall run rate of roughly $8 million.
According to Haghani, the decision to launch a free plan came after the company noticed a sharp drop-off caused by its previously limited trial period. By removing that friction, Circleback expects more people to experience the product, share it with colleagues, and eventually upgrade when they need premium features.
He explained that opening access to more users should help put Circleback in front of a much larger audience. The company believes its product experience and conversion strategy will help turn free users into paying customers over time.
Interestingly, Circleback says it does not rely on major ad spending across platforms like Google or Meta. Instead, the free tier is expected to act as a form of marketing. By letting users try the AI meeting assistant without an upfront cost, the company hopes product-led growth will drive awareness and adoption more efficiently than paid advertising.
Despite investor interest, Circleback is not currently rushing to raise more funding. Haghani said the company does not see funding as a current bottleneck to growth. However, he added that if the team reaches a point where additional capital can clearly solve a problem or accelerate progress, fundraising could become an option.
Circleback’s strategy reflects a broader shift in the AI productivity software market. As more tools compete for attention, free plans are becoming an important way to win users early. For professionals searching for an AI meeting note-taker, Circleback’s unlimited free transcription offer could make it a more appealing option, especially for those who want to test automated meeting notes before paying for a full subscription.
With its new free tier, lower paid pricing, and focus on product-led growth, Circleback is positioning itself as a serious competitor in the fast-growing market for AI meeting transcription, meeting summaries, and workplace productivity tools.
