The world of mobile entertainment is buzzing with the exciting news that Chroma, a trailblazing startup, has been acquired by Bronze, an innovative London-based audio technology company specializing in AI music. Chroma, backed by influential investors like Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter and Medium, and Evan Sharp, co-founder of Pinterest, is making a seamless transition into Bronze’s domain.
Bronze is no stranger to shaking up the music industry with its cutting-edge tools designed for creating generative, interactive, and personalized music experiences. Under the leadership of record producer Lex Dromgoole, who champions AI in music innovation, and composer Gwilym Gold, Bronze has already made waves. They’ve collaborated with renowned entities such as Beatport, XL Recordings, and even musicians like Disclosure and Arca, along with celebrated sound designer Nicolas Becker.
Chroma’s collaboration with Bronze began with “Lux Aeterna,” an app combining an entrancing audiovisual landscape with Venezuelan artist Arca’s music. This app offered a meditative digital space where users could explore music that adapts reactively to their movements and interactions, crafting a unique journey through soundscapes.
The acquisition, though financially undisclosed, focuses on the captivating intellectual property Chroma developed. As part of the deal, Chroma co-founder Andreas Pihlström will lend his expertise to Bronze’s advisory board. The integration of Chroma’s technology is expected to enhance Bronze’s engine, facilitating the creation of interactive experiences across various gaming platforms through a new API. This move is set to broaden the scope and reach of interactive entertainment offerings from Bronze.
Evan Sharp expressed his enthusiasm, noting that the acquisition embodies a shift towards generative environments that empower artists and creatives to bring their visions to life with next-level, dynamically responsive tools.
Prior to the acquisition, Chroma secured considerable investment, raising $7.19 million over two rounds, attracting backing from notable investors including Biz Stone and Evan Sharp. This financial support underscores the potential and innovative spirit Chroma brought to the table, promising an exciting new chapter as it becomes part of the dynamic Bronze family.
