Casio’s Tough Solar Pro Trek Analog Watch Makes Its Long-Awaited US Debut

Casio Pro Trek PRJ-01AE-8J brings a minimalist analog design to the outdoor watch lineup

Casio has expanded availability of its new Pro Trek PRJ-01AE-8J, with the outdoor-focused watch now appearing on the company’s US website after its initial launch in Japan. What makes this release stand out is its surprisingly simple approach: the PRJ-01AE-8J is the first fully analog model in the Pro Trek series.

Unlike many Pro Trek watches known for digital screens, sensor-packed functions, and connected features, this model keeps things clean with a classic three-hand analog layout. There is no LCD display, no triple sensor system, no Bluetooth connectivity, and no extra subdial. Instead, Casio appears to be targeting buyers who want the durability and outdoor styling of a Pro Trek watch in a lighter, simpler, everyday-friendly package.

In Japan, Casio introduced three versions of the watch: the PRJ-01-1J, PRJ-01AE-7J, and PRJ-01AE-8J. For now, only the PRJ-01AE-8J has been listed for the US market. It is not yet clear whether the other two versions will be released in the United States at a later date.

The Casio Pro Trek PRJ-01AE-8J is priced at $230 in the US. At the moment, it is listed as “available soon,” with interested buyers able to sign up for availability notifications through Casio’s official website.

The watch features a bio-based resin case with compact dimensions, measuring 39.1 mm wide and 11.6 mm thick. It also weighs just 32 grams, making it a lightweight option for hiking, travel, camping, or daily wear. Its dark gray case is paired with a clean white dial, giving the watch a practical and easy-to-read appearance.

The dial includes hour markers, a date window, slim seconds hand, and broader hour and minute hands for improved legibility. Casio has also added a white phosphorescent dial treatment, helping users read the time more easily in low-light environments.

Despite its stripped-down design, the PRJ-01AE-8J still includes useful outdoor-ready features. It comes with Tough Solar charging, which helps reduce the need for frequent battery changes by using light to keep the watch powered. It also offers 100-meter water resistance, making it suitable for rain, splashes, and general outdoor use.

Another practical touch is the included carabiner-style strap, which can be attached or removed easily. This gives users more flexibility in how they carry or wear the watch, especially during outdoor activities where convenience matters.

The Casio Pro Trek PRJ-01AE-8J may not be the most feature-heavy model in the Pro Trek family, but that seems to be the point. With its lightweight build, solar charging, water resistance, and straightforward analog design, it offers a refreshing alternative for those who prefer simplicity over screens and sensors. For outdoor enthusiasts who want a rugged Casio watch without the complexity of a digital tool watch, this new Pro Trek model could be an appealing choice.
