Casio is bringing back its popular collaboration with POTR for a fresh limited-edition G-Shock release, and this time it’s built on a more modern version of one of the brand’s most recognizable squares.
While the 2023 collaboration used the DW-5900-1 and relied on an EL backlight, the newest edition switches to the G-Shock DW-5600UE-1. This model is essentially an updated take on the classic DW-5600E-1 introduced in 2012, keeping the familiar rugged feel while upgrading one key area: the backlight.
Instead of the older EL system, the DW-5600UE-1 uses a high-brightness LED setup known as Super Illuminator. The result is a crisp white light that’s easier to read in the dark, and it also helps improve efficiency. Casio rates the battery life at up to five years from a single CR2016 battery, which is a major plus for anyone who wants a dependable daily wear watch without frequent battery swaps.
Beyond that lighting upgrade, the collaboration stays true to what fans expect from a classic G-Shock square. You still get the brand’s signature shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance for serious everyday durability, and mineral glass to help protect the display. It also includes the core timing features that have made the DW-5600 line a go-to for decades: a 1/100-second stopwatch with split times, a 24-hour countdown timer with auto-repeat, a multi-function alarm, and a flash alert for added visibility.
Release details are straightforward: the G-Shock x POTR DW-5600 debuts in Japan on January 10, priced at ¥25,300 (about $161.64). It will be sold through select Porter locations in Japan, including the new PORTER KOBE store opening the same day, as well as the official Yoshida & Kaban online store.
For collectors and longtime G-Shock fans, this release blends the timeless DW-5600 design with a practical modern upgrade, making it an easy pick for anyone who wants a limited-edition collaboration without sacrificing the everyday functionality that made the square a legend.
