Canon appears ready to unveil a new, especially compact full-frame camera this week, and early details suggest it’s designed with creators in mind. The upcoming Canon EOS R6 V is expected to be a video-focused model that brings pro-level recording features into a smaller body—while borrowing much of its look and feel from the Canon EOS R50 V.
Based on the latest leak from a reliable source, the Canon EOS R6 V will largely adopt the EOS R50 V’s design language, but with a body that’s reportedly a bit thicker and heavier. That added size may be purposeful, because the camera is said to include improved heat management for longer recording sessions—an important upgrade for anyone who shoots extended clips, interviews, events, or content for YouTube and social media.
One of the biggest rumored highlights is the sensor. The EOS R6 V is expected to use a 32.5-megapixel full-frame sensor, the same sensor reportedly used in the EOS R6 Mark III. If that claim holds true, it could position the EOS R6 V as a compelling option for hybrid shooters who want strong photo quality but prioritize video performance.
As a “V” model, the camera’s feature set is said to lean heavily toward video. The leak claims the EOS R6 V will be capable of recording 12-bit RAW video, which is a major talking point for filmmakers and advanced creators who want more flexibility for color grading and post-production. To help prevent overheating, Canon is rumored to be adding an expanded cooling system with ventilation openings on the side. Interestingly, the design is said to avoid using an active fan, suggesting Canon is aiming to keep the camera compact, quiet, and streamlined even while improving heat control.
The EOS R6 V is also expected to offer more hands-on control than the EOS R50 V, including an additional control dial that should make manual adjustments faster and more intuitive. The rear display is rumored to be a higher-resolution 3-inch screen, another welcome improvement for accurate framing, reviewing footage, and navigating menus.
Connectivity looks set to be creator-friendly as well. A full-size HDMI port is reportedly included, which is a big deal for people who use external monitors or recorders. Full-size HDMI is generally more durable and practical than smaller HDMI formats, especially for frequent setups and on-the-go shooting.
Alongside the camera, Canon is also rumored to introduce a new lens: the Canon RF 20–50mm f/4 L IS PZ. According to the leak, it’s a power zoom lens, and the focal length can supposedly be adjusted via the camera—exactly the kind of feature video shooters look for when they want smoother zoom control during recording.
If the timing is accurate, Canon will officially announce the EOS R6 V on Wednesday, April 22. Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but given the rumored full-frame sensor, RAW video capability, upgraded cooling, and creator-focused hardware, it’s likely to attract serious interest from videographers, content creators, and hybrid shooters looking for a compact full-frame Canon camera built for video.
