ByteDance Set to Launch Tailored US Edition of CapCut

ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, is reportedly gearing up to launch a new version of its popular video editing app, CapCut, specifically for U.S. users. This move seems to be part of a strategic plan to adhere to a forthcoming 2024 law. This legislation mandates that ByteDance divest from TikTok and its other U.S. holdings or face the possibility of ceasing operations in the country.

In preparation for an anticipated sale of TikTok to a group of investors, ByteDance is also said to be working on a tailored version of the app for American users. CapCut’s popularity is evident, with over 1 billion downloads on the Google Play store. It also outshines major competitors like Instagram and YouTube, ranking as the top video app on the iOS U.S. App Store.

Currently, it’s unclear whether similar U.S.-specific versions will be developed for ByteDance’s other services, such as Lemon8 and Gauth. This development indicates ByteDance’s proactive steps to align with U.S. regulations and secure its presence in the American market.
