Rollme Matrix launches as an affordable 4G Android smartwatch with a slide-out camera
Rollme has introduced the Matrix, a new budget-friendly 4G Android smartwatch with a feature that helps it stand out in a crowded wearable market: a hidden slide-out camera. Priced at $89.99, the smartwatch is aimed at users who want smartphone-like features on their wrist without spending heavily.
The Rollme Matrix comes in two color options, Midnight Black and Dawn Gold, although both versions are currently listed as sold out. The company has not yet confirmed when new stock will be available or when shipping will begin.
The smartwatch uses a square-style body and features a 2.06-inch AMOLED display with a 410 x 502 resolution. That should give users a sharp and bright screen for checking notifications, using apps, viewing maps, making calls, and navigating the Android-based interface.
Powering the Matrix is a Unisoc SL8541E processor, paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Rollme has not confirmed the exact Android version used on the device, but the watch supports direct app installation, making it more versatile than many basic fitness-focused smartwatches in the same price range.
The most eye-catching feature is the camera design. Instead of placing a fixed camera on the bezel or using a rotating camera system, Rollme has built the camera into the side of the watch case. When needed, the camera slides out, allowing users to take photos or make video calls. The camera resolution has not been revealed, but the mechanism gives the Matrix a unique look compared with most affordable smartwatches.
For calling, the Rollme Matrix offers two options. It can connect to a smartphone through Bluetooth, or it can work independently using a SIM card. With standalone SIM support, users can make calls, access mobile networks, and stay connected even without carrying a phone.
The smartwatch supports 2G, 3G, and multiple 4G LTE bands, including FDD bands B12, B17, B20, and B28, along with TDD bands B38 through B41. Connectivity features also include Wi-Fi, GPS, and a geomagnetic compass, making the device useful for navigation and outdoor tracking.
Battery life is supported by a 1,100 mAh battery, which is large for a smartwatch. While real-world battery performance will depend on usage, features such as 4G connectivity, GPS, app use, and video calls are likely to affect how long the device lasts between charges.
The Rollme Matrix also carries an IP67 rating, meaning it offers basic protection against dust and water exposure. This makes it suitable for everyday use, including workouts and light rain, though it is not designed for serious swimming or deep-water activities.
At $89.99, the Rollme Matrix positions itself as an affordable standalone Android smartwatch with features usually found on more expensive wearable devices. Its combination of 4G calling, AMOLED display, app support, GPS, large battery, and slide-out camera could make it appealing to users looking for a low-cost smartwatch that does more than just track steps and show notifications.
The biggest question now is availability. With both color options already marked as sold out and no shipping date confirmed, buyers interested in the Rollme Matrix may need to wait for the company to restock the device.
