Boox Note X6 debuts with Android 16, slimmer design, 128GB storage, and AI note tools
Boox has introduced the Note X6 in China, a new 10.3-inch E Ink note-taking tablet designed for readers, students, professionals, and anyone who wants a paper-like digital writing experience. The device arrives as an upgrade over the previous Note X5 series, bringing a lighter body, a faster processor, more storage, and updated software based on Android 16.
The Boox Note X6 keeps the familiar 10.3-inch monochrome ePaper display, making it suitable for reading ebooks, marking up documents, sketching ideas, and writing handwritten notes. While the screen size remains the same as the earlier generation, the design has been refined. The tablet is now just 5.2mm thick and weighs 365g, making it slimmer and lighter than the Note X5, which measured 5.8mm thick and weighed 405g.
Boox has also changed the overall shape of the device. Instead of the sharper right-angle corners found on the previous model, the Note X6 uses rounded corners, which should make it more comfortable to hold during long reading or writing sessions.
Inside, the Boox Note X6 is powered by the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q6690, also known as the Snapdragon 6690. According to Boox, this chip delivers a 78% performance improvement compared with the previous generation. That should help the tablet feel faster when opening documents, switching apps, writing notes, or using multitasking features.
Storage is another major upgrade. The Note X6 comes with 128GB of internal storage, doubling the capacity of the Note X5. For users who work with large PDF files, ebooks, lecture notes, research documents, or handwritten notebooks, that extra space could be a big advantage. The tablet also includes a microSD card slot, supporting up to 2TB of additional storage.
Unlike some competing E Ink tablets, the Boox Note X6 does not include a camera, so it cannot be used to scan paper documents directly. However, Boox is focusing heavily on software features instead. The tablet runs a new version of Boox OS based on Android 16, giving it access to a more modern software foundation out of the box.
One of the standout features is split-screen multitasking. This allows users to view two apps or documents side by side, which can be useful for reading a textbook while taking notes, comparing documents, translating text, or reviewing a PDF while drafting ideas.
The updated software also includes AI-powered tools. Boox says the Note X6 supports AI summaries, helping users quickly understand long documents or notes. There is also an AI feature similar to circle-to-search, where users can circle text or charts in a document and receive an explanation. This could be especially useful for students, researchers, and business users who regularly work with complex information.
The Boox Note X6 will be sold in white and is scheduled to go on sale in China on May 31. The official price is CNY 3,299, which is approximately $487 or €418. Early buyers may receive a discount of up to 10% at checkout.
For now, Boox has not confirmed whether the Note X6 will launch internationally. If it eventually reaches global markets, it will compete with other popular digital paper tablets and E Ink writing devices, including models that offer lower prices but less storage.
With its slim design, 128GB storage, Android 16-based software, split-screen support, expandable storage, and AI reading tools, the Boox Note X6 looks like a strong option for users who want more than a basic e-reader. It is positioned as a productivity-focused E Ink tablet for note-taking, document review, reading, and distraction-free work.
