Staples also joins the company’s board of directors, stepping into the role formerly held by Sid Sijbrandij, who is facing a rare cancer diagnosis. Sijbrandij will now serve as the executive chair of the board, allowing him to concentrate on his health.

Bill Staples brings a wealth of experience to GitLab, having most recently served as CEO at New Relic, a prominent firm specializing in web tracking and analytics. His career also includes a pivotal role at Microsoft, where he led the Azure application platform team and played a key part in developing the streaming infrastructure that powered Azure and Office 365 video services. Staples’ background includes a significant tenure at Adobe as well, where he advanced cloud services and analytics tools, further showcasing his expertise in the tech landscape.
