DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations launches July 7, 2026, with a massive new campaign
Bethesda Softworks and id Software have officially unveiled DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations, the first major campaign expansion for the latest chapter in the legendary shooter franchise. The DLC is set to launch worldwide on July 7, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Revelations is shaping up to be far more than a small add-on. The expansion will deliver a new single-player campaign expected to last around 10 to 12 hours, making it a substantial addition for players hungry for more demon-slaying action. According to the developer, the content is larger than both post-launch expansions for DOOM Eternal combined, giving fans a sizable reason to return to the battlefield.
The campaign is designed with a strong mix of story progression and endgame content. Around 60 percent of the experience focuses on the main narrative, while the remaining 40 percent is built around high-level challenges, exploration, and replayable encounters.
The global rollout is planned as a simultaneous digital release across supported platforms. PC players will be able to access the expansion through Steam, while PlayStation and Xbox users can download it through their respective digital stores. Pre-loading will also be available, allowing players to prepare the required files ahead of launch and jump in as soon as the expansion goes live.
A launch-day update will arrive alongside the DLC, bringing performance improvements aimed at keeping combat smooth during the expansion’s most intense battles. PlayStation 5 Pro players will also benefit from support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, designed to sharpen image quality and improve visual clarity during fast-paced action.
One of the biggest gameplay changes in DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations is the arrival of the Chain Spear. This new weapon adds a fresh layer of speed and mobility to the heavier, grounded combat style of the base game. The spear can fire outward on a physical chain, letting the Slayer pull himself toward enemies, close gaps instantly, or move through combat arenas with greater aggression.
The Chain Spear is more than just a movement tool. It comes with its own upgrade path, giving players the chance to spend harvested resources on new effects, attributes, and combat bonuses. This creates a new layer of strategy, especially when combined with the shield and other signature weapons from the base game.
The expansion includes six new levels built around an interconnected hub called Purgatory. Instead of moving strictly from one stage to the next, players will explore a more layered environment with Metroidvania-inspired design. That means backtracking, unlocking new paths, solving environmental puzzles, and discovering hidden secrets as new abilities become available.
Revelations also includes fully playable modernized versions of classic DOOM 2 maps. These areas are integrated directly into the new engine and framed as memories of the Slayer, offering longtime fans a nostalgic but updated way to experience iconic locations.
The demon roster is also expanding. New mechanical jousting-style enemies known as Buzzsaws will test player reflexes, while the Archvile makes its return with a redesigned role. Instead of bringing fallen demons back to life, this version summons fresh waves of enemies, forcing players to manage threats quickly before the arena spirals out of control.
Survival in Revelations will depend heavily on knowing when to use the Chain Spear and when to rely on the shield. The expansion appears built around tougher encounters, faster repositioning, and more deliberate loadout choices, making mastery of both old and new tools essential.
DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations will be available as a standalone expansion for standard edition owners at $19.99. Players who want a broader upgrade path can purchase the Premium Edition upgrade for $34.99. Those who already own the Premium Edition or Collector’s Bundle will receive access to the expansion on day one at no extra charge.
Alongside the paid DLC, id Software is also releasing Ripatorium 3.0 as a free update for all players. This update expands customization features, adds localized preset options, and revises the passcode system for the arena challenge mode.
Players who complete the Revelations campaign will unlock three exclusive Ripatorium maps, new unaligned demon archetypes, and pre-upgraded weapon arrays. These additions should give players more reasons to keep fighting after the main story concludes.
With a lengthy new campaign, a major mobility-focused weapon, classic map recreations, tougher demons, and a free arena update, DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations looks like one of the most ambitious expansions in the series’ recent history. For fans of brutal first-person combat, heavy metal atmosphere, and relentless demon-slaying action, July 7, 2026, is shaping up to be a date worth marking.
