BenQ GV31 Portable Projector Recalled Over Battery Overheating and Fire Risk
BenQ has issued a global recall for select GV31 portable projectors after discovering a potential battery defect that could cause the device to overheat and create a fire hazard. Owners of affected units are being urged to stop using their projector immediately, unplug it, and arrange for service through BenQ’s official recall process.
The BenQ GV31 portable projector first launched worldwide more than three years ago and has been sold through major online and electronics retailers. The recall began in several regions at different times, including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, and the United States.
According to product safety information in the US, BenQ has received three reports of GV31 projectors overheating. One of those incidents reportedly caused minor burn injuries. While the number of affected units appears limited, the risk is serious enough that users should not continue operating the projector until it has been inspected or repaired.
In the United States, around 1,249 units are included in the recall. Smaller numbers of affected projectors were sold in other markets. The recalled BenQ GV31 units were available between July 2023 and May 2026 through retailers such as Amazon, BenQ’s own online store, and other electronics sellers.
The reason the recall was not announced everywhere at the same time likely comes down to regional product safety rules. Each country has its own consumer protection authority, legal process, and recall requirements.
