Ayaneo has announced a change in its operating system strategy for the Next Lite handheld console, addressing concerns from its user community. Initially, the Next Lite was to ship with HoloISO OS, a Linux-based system. However, following user feedback, Ayaneo has decided to return to offering Windows 11 on these devices straight out of the box.
The shift away from Windows towards HoloISO was initially made public a few weeks prior, prompting a significant response from the user base. Concerns largely revolved around compatibility issues and the reliability of HoloISO. In response to what they referred to as “valuable feedback” from their community, Ayaneo reevaluated its approach. As a result, the company will now preload the Windows 11 64-bit Home Edition on Next Lite consoles.
Despite the return to Windows 11, a more costly operating system compared to the HoloISO, Ayaneo has made it clear that the base price of the console will remain $299, preserving its affordability.
The company also reassures users interested in a Linux-based experience that the HoloISO system image remains available for download on its website. Ayaneo touts HoloISO for its efficient gaming performance, smooth gameplay, and lower power consumption, though the option for Windows 11 seems to cater to the preferences of a broader user base.
While some users still maintain that a Linux OS could potentially offer a better handheld gaming experience, the move to include Windows 11 aims to satisfy the majority of Ayaneo’s customers.
For those interested in another Ayaneo product, the Ayaneo Air PRO featuring an OLED screen can be found on retail platforms like Amazon.

With this latest update, Ayaneo acknowledges the importance of community feedback to its operational decisions, balancing the desires of its audience with its product offerings.
