Audio-Technica Debuts Luxe ATH-AWX7000 Wooden Headphones Crafted from Kiso Cypress and Echizen Lacquer

Audio-Technica ATH-AWX7000 Debuts as a Luxury Wooden Headphone Crafted From Kiso Cypress

Audio-Technica has introduced the ATH-AWX7000, a new flagship pair of over-ear wooden headphones designed for listeners who want premium craftsmanship, rich acoustic character, and high-end sound reproduction. Built with rare Kiso cypress wood and finished with traditional Echizen lacquer, the ATH-AWX7000 blends Japanese artistry with advanced audio engineering.

The standout feature is the wooden housing, which is not only visually striking but also plays a key role in the headphone’s sound profile. Audio-Technica has tuned the ATH-AWX7000 to deliver a warm, detailed listening experience with powerful deep bass, a spacious soundstage, and a wide dynamic range. The result is a headphone aimed at audiophiles who value both technical precision and natural musical expression.

Inside, the ATH-AWX7000 uses newly developed 58 mm drivers with Hybrid Matrix diaphragms. These diaphragms were created specifically for this model to improve clarity, responsiveness, and overall tonal accuracy. Audio-Technica also applied its HXDT driver molding technology, a process developed during work on its high-end open-back headphone designs. This helps the drivers achieve better precision and consistency, supporting a broad frequency response of 5 Hz to 50 kHz.

The headphones offer a sensitivity rating of 97 dB/mW and an impedance of 48 ohms, making them suitable for dedicated audio setups, premium digital audio players, and high-quality headphone amplifiers. With this tuning and hardware combination, the ATH-AWX7000 is positioned as a serious option for listeners who want refined bass performance without sacrificing detail in the mids and highs.

Comfort is another major focus. Audio-Technica has lined the headband and earpads with Japanese deerskin, giving the headphones a soft, luxurious feel for long listening sessions. Despite their premium wood construction and large drivers, the ATH-AWX7000 weighs 353 g, or about 12 oz, which keeps them manageable for extended use.

For connectivity, the ATH-AWX7000 includes two premium cable options. Buyers get a 3.0 m unbalanced cable with a 6.35 mm plug, ideal for traditional headphone amplifiers and home audio systems. A 2.5 m balanced cable with a Neutrik 4-pin XLRM connector is also included for users with balanced audio equipment. Both cables connect to the headphones using Audio-Technica’s A2DC connectors.

When not in use, the headphones can be stored in the included compact carrying case, offering protection for the lacquered wooden finish and premium materials.

The Audio-Technica ATH-AWX7000 is priced at $3,799, placing it firmly in the luxury audiophile headphone category. For listeners who admire Audio-Technica’s sound but want something more affordable, the company also offers a wide range of headphones at lower price points, including open-back models designed for detailed, natural listening.

With its Kiso cypress construction, Echizen lacquer finish, custom 58 mm drivers, and premium comfort materials, the ATH-AWX7000 is one of Audio-Technica’s most refined headphone releases yet. It is designed for serious music lovers who want a blend of Japanese craftsmanship, high-resolution sound, and a distinctive wooden headphone design.
