ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 OLED Pre-Orders Open at $1,299 Ahead of October 15 Launch
ASUS has officially opened pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, its latest premium gaming handheld, with a launch price of $1,299. The device is scheduled to begin shipping on October 15, 2026, positioning it as one of the most expensive handheld gaming PCs in the current market.
First revealed at Computex, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 builds on the previous ROG Xbox Ally X model while adding a more premium design and an upgraded display. ASUS is presenting the handheld as a collector-focused device, thanks to its translucent black chassis, refined controls, and higher-end OLED screen.
The $1,299 price puts the ROG Xbox Ally X20 around $300 above the previous ROG Xbox Ally X, which launched at $999. While the design and display have changed, much of the core hardware remains familiar. The handheld is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads. It also includes 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1 TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage.
The biggest upgrade is the new 7.4-inch OLED display. Compared to standard LCD panels, OLED technology offers deeper blacks, richer contrast, and more vibrant colors, making it especially appealing for portable gaming. The screen also supports HDR and can reach up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness, while SDR brightness is rated at up to 600 nits.
For smoother gameplay, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which helps reduce screen tearing and improves visual fluidity during fast-paced games. ASUS also lists a response time of just 0.2 ms, making the display well suited for action, racing, and competitive titles.
Battery capacity remains the same as the previous model, with an 80 Wh battery inside. However, the new handheld is slightly heavier, weighing 756 grams. That added weight is likely due to the updated design and larger OLED display, though it may be something buyers consider if they plan to use the device for long handheld gaming sessions.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is now available for pre-order through official retail channels, with shipments expected to start on October 15, 2026. With its OLED display, Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24 GB of memory, and premium collector-style design, ASUS is clearly targeting gamers who want a high-end portable gaming PC and are willing to pay extra for a more advanced screen and refined build.
