Asus has officially brought its new 27-inch OLED gaming monitor to US shoppers, with the ROG Swift OLED XG27AQWMG now listed for $649 on Amazon. It targets players who want a fast 280 Hz refresh rate and QHD resolution, but don’t want to give up the punchy look that glossy OLED screens are known for.
At this price, the XG27AQWMG lands between some well-known 27-inch QHD OLED rivals. What helps it stand out isn’t just the speed—it’s the finish. Asus is currently the only brand offering a 280 Hz Tandem WOLED monitor with a glossy coating that’s actually on sale right now in the US. While another glossy 280 Hz Tandem WOLED alternative has been announced elsewhere, it hasn’t reached stores yet.
A glossy OLED monitor can be a big deal for image quality, and Asus is leaning into that advantage with what it calls a TrueBlack Glossy coating. The company claims this finish helps deliver sharper-looking images and deeper blacks, even when you’re gaming in a brighter room. Glossy panels also tend to make colors look more vibrant compared to matte displays. To address the usual downside of glossy screens, Asus says this coating reduces reflections by up to 38% versus earlier WOLED generations.
Beyond the finish, the monitor uses an LG Display Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel and brings improvements associated with newer WOLED designs. Asus rates it for up to 335 nits of full-screen brightness, with a peak of up to 1,500 nits in HDR at 1.5% APL—useful for games and content that rely on intense highlights. Color coverage is also slightly improved, moving from 99% DCI-P3 to 99.5% DCI-P3.
Asus also highlights a new four-stack panel structure, which is intended to improve text clarity—one of the areas where OLED monitors have historically drawn criticism for desktop use. The same panel changes are said to extend OLED lifespan by up to 60%, and the monitor includes OLED care tools designed to reduce burn-in risk. One standout feature is a presence sensor that can turn the screen black when you step away, helping reduce unnecessary static-image exposure.
For competitive gaming, the core specs are built for speed: a 280 Hz refresh rate paired with a 0.03 ms response time. It also supports both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for smoother, tear-free gameplay across a wide range of GPUs.
Connectivity is straightforward and geared toward PCs and current-gen consoles, with one DisplayPort 1.4 input, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and two USB-A ports. If you’re hoping for a single-cable laptop setup, keep in mind there’s no USB-C on this model.
The Asus ROG Swift OLED XG27AQWMG is available to buy now in the US via Amazon. It also appears on Asus’ own store listings, though it’s currently marked out of stock there. For shoppers comparing options, other 27-inch QHD OLED gaming monitors exist at both lower and higher price points, but this one’s current calling card is simple: 280 Hz Tandem OLED performance with a glossy finish you can actually purchase today.
