ASUS Rolls Out New AMD BIOS Update to Restore TSME on Consumer Ryzen CPUs

ASUS has started releasing a new BIOS update that brings back Transparent Secure Memory Encryption, better known as TSME, for consumer AMD Ryzen processors. The change arrives after many Ryzen users noticed that the feature had disappeared following recent AMD BIOS updates.

The issue gained attention when users found that non-PRO Ryzen CPUs were no longer showing TSME support. Initially, it appeared that AMD had limited the feature to Ryzen PRO processors, which are typically aimed at business and enterprise systems. However, after feedback from the PC hardware community, AMD confirmed that TSME would return to consumer Ryzen chips through future BIOS updates.

TSME is a security feature designed to encrypt data stored in system memory. When enabled in the BIOS, it works automatically by using a processor-generated key created during boot. This helps protect the contents of RAM against certain physical attack methods, including cold boot attacks, where someone attempts to recover data from memory after a system has been powered down or restarted.

While TSME is not a feature most everyday users actively manage, it matters to enthusiasts, security-conscious users, developers, and anyone who values built-in hardware-level protection. Its quiet removal from consumer Ryzen systems caused frustration because many users prefer having control over security options available on their own hardware.

ASUS is now among the first motherboard vendors to address the situation. The company has released a new beta BIOS update for select AMD 800-series motherboards. This update includes AMD AGESA ComboAM5 PI 1.3.0.1b Patch A and specifically notes the restoration of the Transparent Secure Memory Encryption feature.

For users with compatible ASUS AM5 motherboards, the new Beta BIOS 2401 should bring TSME support back, provided the system was affected by the earlier removal. The issue mainly impacted users running BIOS versions based on AGESA 1.2.0.7 and newer, where TSME support was removed for non-PRO Ryzen processors.

Ryzen owners who rely on TSME or simply want access to the full set of security options may want to check their motherboard’s BIOS page for the latest release. Since this is a beta BIOS, users should review the update notes carefully and decide whether they need the fix immediately or prefer to wait for a stable release.

Other motherboard manufacturers are expected to follow with similar BIOS updates as AMD’s updated firmware rolls out more widely. For now, ASUS users with supported boards appear to be among the first to regain the memory encryption feature on consumer Ryzen CPUs.

This update is a positive move for AMD Ryzen desktop users, especially those who were disappointed by the sudden disappearance of TSME. It also shows that community feedback can still influence platform-level decisions, particularly when it involves security features that many users believe should remain available across both consumer and professional processor lines.
