Aqua Computer Unveils Ampinel: Load-Balancing Protection for the 12V-2×6 Power Connector

Aqua Computer has introduced a new safety-focused accessory called Ampinel, designed to reduce the risk of the widely discussed 16-pin GPU power connector (12V-2×6) overheating and melting. With more high-end graphics cards relying on this connector style, the goal is simple: help keep power delivery stable and spread electrical load more evenly to avoid hot spots that can damage the plug.

Ampinel was initially expected to arrive much later, with an earlier plan pointing to a November 2025 release. After delays, it has now launched, and Aqua Computer says the wait came from expanding the feature set and putting in extra development time. That change also affected pricing. Instead of the originally planned 80 euros, Ampinel now sells for 100 euros, reflecting a 20-euro increase.

What makes Ampinel notable is its focus on load balancing. One of the most common causes behind overheating on 16-pin connectors is uneven current draw across the pins, often triggered by poor or inconsistent contact. When a few pins end up carrying more current than intended, temperatures can rise quickly, increasing the risk of damage. Ampinel aims to address that by distributing current across all pins more effectively, helping to lower the chance of localized overheating.

While some competing solutions emphasize real-time display-style monitoring, Ampinel’s core strength is power distribution rather than live readouts. That said, it does support optional software for monitoring and customization, giving users extra control over how the device operates.

Ampinel is positioned as a practical add-on for power-hungry NVIDIA GeForce RTX cards that use the 12V-2×6 connector, including flagship-class models like the RTX 5090 and RTX 4090, as well as other GPUs built around the same 16-pin standard.

To fit different graphics card layouts, Ampinel is available in two hardware versions: Type A and Type B. The right choice depends on the orientation of the connector on your specific GPU, so buyers will want to confirm which version matches their card before purchasing.

One important detail for shoppers comparing options: Ampinel does not include any extended GPU warranty coverage. If warranty-related extras are a deciding factor, that’s something to consider when weighing Ampinel against other 16-pin connector safety devices.

With its emphasis on balancing electrical load across pins, Aqua Computer’s Ampinel enters the market as another tool for enthusiasts looking to reduce the risks associated with the 16-pin GPU power connector—especially in high-performance builds where power draw and heat management matter most.
