Aptoide App Store Launches on iOS in the European Union

The Aptoide app store, a well-known alternative to Google Play, is foraying into the iOS realm following the introduction of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). This breakthrough brings Aptoide to iPhones and iPads, initially in an invite-only capacity, beginning with a pilot phase that will kick off with a limited number of users being granted access each day.

Aptoide emerged in 2009, offering a diverse platform for app distribution that extends to smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and even VR devices, including a version specifically designed for children. Enterprising as ever, Aptoide is launching a gaming-centric app store exclusively for iOS users within the EU. The launch is set to happen, ushering a new era for third-party iOS app stores focused on gaming.

In the context of a step-by-step strategy, Aptoide is opening its doors initially to a select user base. With a waiting list that consists of 20,000 sign-ups, daily invitations will range from 500 to 1,000. This controlled rollout is aimed at collecting valuable user feedback to refine the platform before it becomes widely accessible.

At launch, the Aptoide iOS gaming store will feature a modest selection of seven games, with staples such as Solitaire, Charades, and Mahjong. The company has communicated that over 100 iOS developers have expressed a willingness to join the platform, with around 30 in the midst of integrating their games. While currently focusing exclusively on gaming, the app store’s operators have hinted at the possibility of expanding the content to include additional apps and services in the future.

Aptoide’s initiative to “liberate iOS in Europe” signifies a monumental shift in app distribution in the region, facilitated by the recent legal framework adjustments. Users and developers alike are poised to experience a novel approach to app distribution on iOS devices. As the digital landscape evolves, Aptoide’s introduction on iOS may pave the way for further expansion and diversification of app marketplaces within the European Union and potentially beyond.
