M4 OLED coming to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air

Apple’s iPhone 17 Lineup to Feature Advanced M14 OLED Panels, Previously Exclusive to ‘Pro’ Models

Last year saw the exclusive debut of M14 OLED technology with Apple’s premium iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, elevating their display quality. However, Apple plans to extend this advanced screen technology to its more budget-friendly models, namely the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, later this year. This strategic move is set to give Apple a competitive advantage, surpassing even rivals like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which surprisingly did not feature the sought-after M14 OLED display.

The introduction of M14 OLED technology across these models will allow Apple to enhance display brightness and longevity significantly. This is due to the innovation in M14, where the efficiency of the blue-emitting layer is drastically improved. Users can expect a 30% increase in brightness over the previous M13 technology, combined with a better lifespan for their devices. In its continuous pursuit of excellence, Samsung has been developing blue phosphorescent materials to replace the current blue fluorescent elements, potentially leading to even more advanced M15 OLEDs in the future.

While it’s still uncertain if the M15 will be used in the newer models, the implementation of M14 OLED in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max showcases the impressive capabilities of this technology. Although it remains unclear if the entire lineup will incorporate M14, reports suggest Apple aims to integrate LTPO technology into all models, hinting at a comprehensive upgrade.

Interestingly, while Samsung is developing M14 OLED panels, it did not integrate them into the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This omission might not be a disadvantage, as previous display tests by industry experts placed the Galaxy S25 Ultra as a top contender amongst premium smartphones, stating it doesn’t necessarily require the M14 upgrade for superior performance.

Through its potential roll-out of the M14 OLED technology, Apple is poised to provide its future iPhone lineup with cutting-edge displays, ensuring a significant step forward in visual excellence and efficiency.
