Apple Watch Series 10 to launch with sleep apnea detection feature

Apple Watch Series 10 Promises a Slimmer Design and Advanced Sleep Apnea Detection

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 10 is set to be the most significant update to the wearable since its debut in 2015, coinciding with its tenth anniversary. Apple is gearing up to introduce several exciting new features with this landmark release. Among the innovations, a sleek new Ceramic variant is generating considerable buzz. However, the most anticipated addition might be the advanced sleep apnea detection feature.

Sleep apnea detection is expected to become the flagship health feature for this year’s model. According to industry insider Mark Gurman, the sleep apnea detection won’t be immediately available at launch. Instead, Apple plans to roll out this feature through a software update, potentially later this year or next.

The way this feature works is quite intriguing. It will enhance the existing sleep tracking capabilities of the Apple Watch, analyzing various health metrics to determine if the user is experiencing sleep apnea. Upon detection, it will prompt the user to consult medical professionals for further evaluation.

Gurman has raised some concerns about the new feature’s reliance on blood oxygen saturation monitoring. This functionality is caught up in a legal tussle with Masimo in the United States. As a result, Apple has temporarily removed the blood oxygen monitor from the watch. It remains to be seen how Apple will navigate these challenges to implement sleep apnea detection effectively.

While fans eagerly await the sleep apnea detection capability, the Apple Watch Series 10 also promises to introduce a hypertension detection or high blood pressure monitor. However, this feature remains in the testing phase and has not yet delivered consistent results. Apple appears to be holding off on releasing it until it’s perfected, meaning it won’t be part of the immediate release.

Beyond health innovations, the Series 10 will boast a sleeker, thinner design than its predecessors. Reports suggest Apple will increase the case sizes to 45mm and 49mm, phasing out the 41mm size, similar to the dimensions seen in the Apple Watch Ultra.

All eyes are on Apple’s ‘It’s Glowtime’ event, where the company will unveil final details of the Apple Watch Series 10, alongside the highly anticipated iPhone 16 lineup. This occasion is sure to be filled with exciting revelations. What are you looking forward to the most at the event?
