Apple is turning the Apple Watch into a smarter audio companion with a new set of listening-based features for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Announced on Wednesday, the update introduces Siri Recap, a meeting notetaker designed to capture the most important details from conversations and make them easier to review later.
Siri Recap uses ambient audio to create high-level notes from conversations. Instead of saving a full recording, Apple Intelligence generates a title, summary, and key points that users can view inside the Siri app. The idea is to help users remember important takeaways from meetings, discussions, or quick conversations without needing to manually write everything down.
Apple says users will have control over how Siri Recap works. The feature can be left on continuously, scheduled for specific times, or turned off entirely. That flexibility may appeal to users who want automatic meeting notes during work hours but do not want the feature active throughout the day.
The company also introduced several other audio intelligence tools for Apple Watch. One of the biggest additions is instant song recognition through Shazam. With this feature, the Apple Watch can identify music playing nearby without requiring users to reach for their iPhone. It brings a more seamless music discovery experience directly to the wrist.
Another new capability allows the Apple Watch to detect important sounds in the environment. The device can recognize loud or urgent noises such as sirens, alarms, doorbells, and a baby crying, then send a notification to the user. Even with these safeguards, always-listening technology may raise concerns for some users. Siri Recap could still generate summaries that include sensitive or private information, especially if the feature is left on continuously.
