Apple, known for its innovative technology, is rumored to be stepping into the world of foldable devices. A recent report from Korea suggests that Apple’s first foldable device could hit the market in 2026, possibly taking the form of a new iPad model. With a screen size expected to be in the range of late 7 to early 8 inches, this device might be positioned to replace the current iPad mini, which has an 8.3-inch display. However, there are conflicting reports since Apple is also said to be transitioning the iPad mini to OLED technology. This aligns with previous rumors from December 2023 that Apple is developing OLED iPads and might only proceed with a foldable iPad after the entire lineup is updated with OLED displays.
In terms of production, Apple may rely on Samsung Display as the primary supplier for the foldable screens, given Samsung’s proven track record with the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series. Nonetheless, Apple might also consider collaborating with LG to procure the necessary foldable displays as their technical specifications for the foldable device have not been finalized.
Further excitement surrounds the prospect of Apple releasing a larger foldable machine, specifically a 20.25-inch model, as well as an OLED MacBook. These products are allegedly set to launch after the debut of the smaller foldable device. Previously, there were whispers in the tech community about a 20-inch foldable MacBook possibly being announced in 2025 with availability the following year, but timelines vary across reports.
As with all rumors, especially those concerning products a few years away from potential release, it is advisable to maintain a healthy level of skepticism until more concrete information or official announcements are made. Apple fans and tech enthusiasts alike might have to wait a while longer before they can experience these foldable innovations firsthand.
