In a strategic response to the fierce competition in China, Apple has decided to enhance its presence by participating in a digital product subsidy program. This initiative, aimed at boosting sales, allows Apple to offer its devices at tempting discounts.
Amidst tough market conditions, Apple has taken this step before, notably reducing prices by up to $110 during the New Year sale, with discounts on its iPhone 16 models as well. The current program extends savings to a range of products including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs, available exclusively to customers in Beijing and Shanghai.
The subsidies, reported by the South China Morning Post, offer up to 2,000 yuan (approximately $278) off various Apple products. Those in Beijing can benefit from these deals by visiting any of the eight Apple stores in the city. Meanwhile, Shanghai residents enjoy the added convenience of accessing these offers through Apple’s online store.
Discounts apply to products under 6,000 yuan (around $835), receiving a 15 percent reduction with a cap of 500 yuan. More expensive items like high-end Macs are set for even larger discounts. Previously, Apple relied on major third-party platforms for discounted sales under China’s subsidy program. However, using its own channels now allows Apple to potentially increase profit margins by eliminating intermediary costs.
Though the duration of this discount period remains undisclosed, it’s expected that Apple will continue these offers for an extended period to strengthen its market position against competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi.
