Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series is setting the stage with improved charging capabilities that are bound to impress tech enthusiasts. While Apple hasn’t highlighted this feature in its promotional materials, evidence from certifications and Apple support in China indicates that all four iPhone 16 models will support a peak charging wattage of 45 W. This enhancement marks a significant step up from the previous models.
The spotlight may be on the powerful new A18 and A18 Pro processors, but the charging upgrade is equally noteworthy. Last year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were capped at 20 W, while the Pro versions reached 27 W. The jump to 45 W places the iPhone 16 series on par with other flagship competitors, notably Samsung’s S25 Ultra, which also maxes out at 45 W.
The confirmation comes from an initial report by Chinese outlet WhyLab and was later corroborated by Apple customer service in China. Despite the potential for these phones to charge at 45 W, real-world usage suggests that typical charging conditions will see them operate around 38 W. This remains a substantial improvement over the previous iterations and promises faster power-ups for users.
It’s important to note that peak charging wattage often doesn’t translate to sustained charging speeds. However, the enhanced capabilities should still deliver a more efficient charging experience. As the iPhone 16 series hasn’t hit the market yet, we’ll have to wait for hands-on tests to fully validate these claims.
