M4 MacBook Air launch could happen as early as this week

Anticipated M4 MacBook Air Release on the Horizon as Apple Clears Out M3 Inventory

Apple has just wrapped up the release of the iPhone 16e in major markets, but the tech giant isn’t hitting the brakes quite yet. A slew of exciting products, including the eagerly anticipated M4 MacBook Air lineup, are set to make their debut soon. Previously, it was suggested that the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs would be unveiled as early as March. However, fresh reports now indicate that Apple might unveil these shiny new machines as soon as next week.

In recent times, Apple’s current-generation iPad models have experienced some supply shortages. Despite this, it’s expected that the M4 MacBook Air lineup will make its entrance first. While the exact launch date remains under wraps, industry insiders speculate that we might see a press release on Tuesday, a day usually reserved by Apple for significant announcements. Given that the iPhone 16e was launched on a Wednesday, there’s a chance that the upgraded MacBook Air models might follow suit and go live midweek.

The M4 MacBook Air family is likely to maintain the same sleek design as its M3 predecessors, which could speed up its availability in various markets. The M4 chip—first introduced in the iPad Pro line and subsequently powering MacBook Pro models—was recently put to the test on Geekbench 6. The results showed the 10-core GPU on the M4 MacBook Air scored just 5% lower than its MacBook Pro counterpart in the Metal benchmark test.

The slight performance dip might be due to Apple choosing a fan-less design for the M4 MacBook Air once again. However, it will be intriguing to see how TSMC’s second-generation process impacts the device’s efficiency. As these new models come with a heftier price tag, savvy shoppers can find good deals on the M3 MacBook Air lineup. The 13-inch and 15-inch versions, complete with 16GB of unified RAM as a standard feature, are available starting at $899 and $1,099, respectively.
